Oyster Bamboo Fly Rod Making Class March 9-14, 2026

Oyster Bamboo Fly Rod Making Class March 9-14, 2026

Welcome Oyster’s March 9-14, 2026 bamboo fly rod making class. We welcomed 4 repeat students and 6 new rod makers.

6 days in beautiful Blue Ridge, Georgia = making a bamboo fly rod with your own hands!

Morgan from South Georgia was here for his 4th class. He loves fishing his 9wt Oyster bamboo fly rod. He decided on an 8’ 7wt for Yellowstone and The Great Lakes this year.

Cory from Smyrna, GA was here for his 3rd class. He signed up specifically for this class since his friend Paul was also attending. Cory built an 8’5wt for local waters, since he has already crafted an 8’ 7wt and an 8’ 10wt.

Paul from Louisiana (everyone’s favorite redfish guide) was here for his 1st class. He has known the Oyster crew for many years. He said, “If you want the best outcome, you choose the best. The experience was very humbling, and I will be back.” Paul crafted an 8’10wt for saltwater.

Tye from Columbia, South Carolina, was here for his 1st class. He visited Oyster’s showroom in Downtown Blue Ridge, purchased a shirt, and wondered why he hadn’t signed up sooner. He chose to build a 7’6” 5wt for smaller North Carolina and Tennessee waters.

Billy from Augusta, Georgia, joined us for his 3rd class. His wife encouraged him to sign up and build a rod honoring their 50th wedding anniversary. Billy has made an 8’ 5wt and an 8’ 9wt, so he decided to build an 8’ 7wt this time.

Gary from Idaho attended his 1st class with his son, Jim. Gary crafted an 8’ 6wt as his go-to rod for fishing with his son in Idaho and Oregon.

Jim from Oregon brought dad, Gary, and friend, Greg. Jim decided on an 8’ 5wt for trout fishing in Oregon and Alabama (his home state).

Victor from Santa Rosa Beach, Florida, was here for his 1st class and was excited to build a bamboo fly rod. He chose to craft a 7’4” 4wt to fish smaller waters and the Choctawhatchee Bay.

Charles from Griffin, Georgia, was here for his 2nd class. He also spends time at his cabin in Blue Ridge. Charles made an 8’ 7wt for fishing the Flint River.

Greg joined us from Orlando, Florida, but also has a house in the North Georgia Mountains. He built a 7’9” 5wt for local trout waters.
