Oyster Bamboo Fly Rod Making Class July 29-August 2, 2025

Alumni Class - July 29-August 2, 2025

About last week…Oyster’s first-ever “repeat-only” class introduced some new materials and concepts. How did this happen? Organically. #squeakywheel

Let’s break it down.

John took his #32nd class! His 1st class was a gift from Flo (see the engraving series named after her). He says the class is addicting (clearly) & made an 8’8” 7wt for his favorite local fishing spot.

Randy (Randers around here) here for class #6 from Roswell, GA, and made an 8’8” 7wt for his favorite local fishing spot, @NCF. See you Monday!

Bill, from TN took class #2. He made an Oyster favorite, a 7’9” 6wt, for his favorite local fishing spot.

Mike from Cleveland, TN, attended class #4. Mike is a repeat attendee on several levels at Oyster, including our travel club. He made an 8’ 8wt for his favorite local fishing spot.

Bert also attended class #4. A craftsman at heart, Bert is another dedicated maker. He made an 8’ 8wt for his favorite local fishing spot, the Ocmulgee. See you next week!😉

Meet Ray, Greg, and Hastin! Three generations attending class together! We are fairly certain this honor belongs exclusively to them!

Greg here for class #4 and lives in Cherry Log, GA. He made a 7’6” 5wt for his favorite local fishing spot, the Nantahala. He is here with his father and son (3 generations). His 1st class was in 2017-a surprise from his son.

Hastin attended class #4, from Houschton, GA. He made an 8’ 7wt for saltwater; his favorite local fishing spot is Big Creek. Hastin is a regular at Oyster and the impetus behind bringing 3 generations to class.

Ray, Greg’s father & Hastin’s grandfather, was here for class #2. The first rod he made with Oyster was a “beautiful” 4wt. This time, he made an 8’ 7wt for saltwater. We look forward to the pics, Ray!

Jim from FL, attended class #3. His favorite local fishing spot is the Toccoa Tailwater & he made an 8’ 7wt. See you in 2026!

Slaton—since 2019… (Slayyyyton) it was class #7 for Slaton from Arkansas! He made an 8’ 6wt & has never fished locally, his favorite fishing hole is in Arkansas. See you soon!

What a cool week! Thank you all for coming out for the week, braving the new process and supporting Oyster!

To the rest of our bamboo fly rod class alumni: #wishyouwerehere
You know we mean that.
