6 days in Blue Ridge = making a bamboo fly rod with your own hands!
Welcome Oyster’s February 23-28, 2026 bamboo fly rod making class. We welcomed 5 repeat students and 5 new rod makers.☀️
We cherish our repeat students. Your ongoing support of Oyster & the craft of bamboo fly rod making is the ultimate compliment. Thanks y’all!
Slaton joined us from Arkansas for his 8th class. He says he is going for 10 classes to get his apron on the wall. He crafted an 8’ 7wt as a gift for someone special.🎁 See you soon!
Dan and KayKay were here from Anna Maria Island, Florida, for their 2nd class and to celebrate their 40th anniversary. They fell in love with Blue Ridge and enjoy spending time at their mountain home here in Blue Ridge. This time, they brought their sons Denver, Hunter, and Cooper. Dan built an 8’ 9wt for saltwater fly fishing and KayKay made a 7’ 3” 4wt to fish in their backyard.
Denver was here for his 2nd class and crafted an 8’ 9wt to primarily fish in Florida. He says he enjoys the experience and people he meets during the class week.
Drew joined us from Connecticut for his 2nd class. This time, he crafted an 8’ 12wt for Tarpon fishing in Florida.
Hunter was here from Florida with his family and said his parents ‘made him come’ (not really)😂. He decided on a 7’9” 6wt to fish Fightingtown Creek.
Cooper from Jacksonville, Florida was here with his family for his 1st class. He was inspired by the craftsmanship and the idea of owning a rod he made by hand. Cooper made an 8’ 9wt for saltwater fly fishing.
Harry joined us from Pennsylvania. His son enjoys fly fishing, so he crafted an 8’ 6wt for his son. 🧑🧒See you next year!
Toccoa from McCayesville, GA, attended his first class. He built a 7’9” 5wt for North Georgia waters. Y’all have to see his engraving! #myprecious 🧙♂️
Danny (aka Dink) was here from Canton, GA. He is a local beloved North Georgia fly fishing guide and has always wanted to take a class. Dink crafted a 7’6” 4wt for local waters.
Keeping the Craft Alive. Thank you to everyone for making the trip, and for making the week so special!
