Oyster Bamboo Fly Rod Making Class February 17-22, 2025

Welcome to the Bamboo Rod Making Class! February 17-22. A new week brings 10 enthusiastic (and some familiar) Oyster bamboo fly rod making students!

🏆 Joel Dickey: Many of you know him as a Tarpon Guide in the Keys, but we know Joel as a father, husband, good friend, fellow angler, and neighbor. He’s here for his 10th class, crafting a 7’ 9” 5wt rod. And yes, there will be cake! 🎂

🎁Clay: Joining us from Nashville, Clay is here after receiving a gift from his wife. He’s definitely bringing the good vibes and it feels like we’ve k own his for decades. 😉He’s making an 8’ 6wt rod.

❄️Ben: All the way from Minnesota, he says that the plunging temperatures here in Blue Ridge are still “T-shirt weather.” He’s here because Oyster “kept showing up” in his life and is making a 7’ 9” 5wt rod. Welcome to the South!

✨Jim: From Florida, Jim is back for his second class. He spoke with Bruce in the showroom on Main Street years ago and describes the bamboo fly rod making process as “addictive.” He’s working on an 8’ 6wt rod.

🎣David: From North Carolina and here with Jim is new to fly fishing, with Jim introducing him to the sport. What are friends for?!? He’s making an 8’ 6wt rod.

3️⃣ Morgan: Back for his third class, Morgan recently took a trip with the Oyster Travel Club in December, making him a repeat offender! He’s crafting Oyster’s sweet 8’ 9wt rod.

2️⃣Bill: A local returning for his second class, Bill is making an 8’ 7wt rod for his daughter. #legacy 🤍

🎁Randy: This class is a gift from his wife, and he’s here from beautiful Ellijay, working on a 7’ 6” 5wt rod.

🏹Alan: Visiting from Indiana…fun fact—he’s a traditional bow maker! The handmade aspect of bamboo fly rods drew him to Oyster, and he’s making an 8’ 5wt rod.

🎁Atticus: With the coolest name in the class, Atticus is making a 7’ 3” 4wt rod. This class is a gift from his parents, and he’s a fly fishing guide. Welcome!

❄️ It’s perfect weather for making bamboo fly rods this week! We look forward to seeing everyone’s creations. ❄️

❄️Handcrafted for your lifetime…An heirloom for future generations❄️
