Oyster 10 Class Club

It’s official! Oyster welcomes our newest member to the “10 Class Club.”

“You never know who you’re going to be in the class with, but you always meet somebody interesting. Everybody’s happy to be there—they’re there for a reason. Everybody’s excited about what’s going to happen over the next six days. I made some really good friends in there… people in there that I needed to be friends with.”
— Randy (bamboo rod maker and person extraordinaire)

Meet Randy

We met Randy in 2012 after he received his first bamboo fly rod-making class as a gift from his wife, Barbara. In fact, he attended his first class in one of our former workshops on Main Street—back when we inhabited that space for a short time while building our current location just down the street.

Since Randy’s first class over 14 years ago, our company—and life—has changed in so many ways. Yet one constant remains: our thoughtful, curious, and seriously compelling clients. Randy personifies just that…

Randy has this ineffable ease about him that makes him so approachable—you just want to tell him all of your problems. LOL. (I’ll save that conversation for your next class —Shannen.)

Join us as we celebrate Randy’s formidable accomplishment of making 10 bamboo fly rods. That puts him in a rare group of individuals (whether it’s here at Oyster or elsewhere) with the perseverance, desire, and patience to do something so crazy. Well done. 🙌🏽 You earned your cake. 🎂

Editor’s note:

Dear Randy, it has been nearly six weeks since you attended your 10th class, and it has taken that long to cobble together the words to capture—even in the smallest sense—what you mean to all of us here at Oyster. Here’s where we all landed, thinking of you as a client, a fly fisherman, a rod maker, and a friend…

You bring the good good.

You surpassed student to friend years ago, and we’re all so very proud to know you, Barbara, and everyone else fortunate enough to be in your orbit.

Thank you for showing up, locking in and briniging the good to Oyster. You are forever part of this ride now.
✨Love, The Oyster Crew
