Oyster’s September 21–26, 2026 bamboo fly rod making class brought another full house of fly rod makers—3 repeat students and 7 new students!
We asked our students if they could bring anyone with them to a class…WHO would it be❓
Rick, from Michigan, returned for his 9th class. ❓When asked who he’d bring to a class, he said his son. This time, Rick made a 7'9" 5wt bamboo fly rod for his college roommate—friends of 53 years. Rick says this is one of the best weeks of his year.
Steve was here from California for his 8th class. ❓If Steve could bring anyone to the class, it would be his son—he calls him “one hell of a fisherman.” This time, Steve built an 8' 6wt fly rod. We can’t wait to see what rod he crafts for his 10th class in 2027!
Bert joined us from Fayetteville, GA, for his 8th class. He chose to craft an 8' 5wt bamboo rod to gift to a friend. ❓When asked who he would bring to the class, he said he would have brought his father. 🥺Bert shared that his dad would’ve been the first one in class each day—and the last out. See you soon!
Joel was here from Dallas, Texas, for his 1st class and brought Amy. ❓Joel said if he could bring anyone to class, he would bring Robert Redford to narrate while he built his rod. 😭Joel built an 8' 7wt rod for large bass and trout in Texas.
Amy, also from Texas, joined us for her 1st bamboo fly rod making class. She’s been into fly fishing for 6 years and mostly enjoys saltwater fly fishing in Belize. Amy crafted a 7'6" 5wt rod for fly fishing central Texas.
Vern joined us from Virginia for his 1st class. He says he’s a novice fly fisherman and enjoys making things by hand, which drew him to Oyster’s bamboo fly rod class. Vern built an 8' 5wt rod to fish for trout in Virginia.
Joe, a North GA local, was gifted his 1st bamboo rod making class at Oyster. He wanted a “weapon” to fish the Noontootla and Cartecay Rivers, so he made a 7'6" 5wt. ❓When asked who he’d bring to class, Joe said his stepfather, who taught him to fly fish. 🎣
Jim, from Cumming, GA, joined us for his 1st bamboo rod making class. He plans to primarily fish North Georgia and Western North Carolina, so he crafted a 7'9" 5wt. ❓Jim said if he could bring anyone to class with him, it would be his 89-year-old father. ❤️
Mike was here from San Diego, CA, for his 1st Oyster class, and he brought his son, Matt. He made an 8' 6wt to fly fish in Northern California. He said he had an amazing week and plans to bring back each of his sons.
Matt, Mike’s son from Colorado, joined us for his 1st bamboo rod making class. Matt said he enjoys working with his hands and needed a versatile tool to fly fish rivers in Colorado, so he chose an 8' 6wt.
It’s so rewarding to have families sharing this experience together during the week!
Thank you all for making last week so memorable! It’s humbling to be part of your experience. Looking forward to many more!✨
