Why Should I Fish A Bamboo Fly Rod?

Why Should I Fish A Bamboo Fly Rod?

"Why should I fish bamboo?" We hear that a lot from people. When they come to an event and see our rods, or visit the showroom, they might already be experienced fly fishermen but lack knowledge about bamboo. They'll often ask, "Why should I fish bamboo?" I always give the same answer: maybe you should, and maybe you shouldn't.

I believe everybody should fish what they enjoy. If bamboo seems like the sort of thing that excites you, you're probably going to love it.

If it doesn’t, then don’t—there’s no hard and fast reason to do so. People often say it's less practical. But if you think about it, fly fishing isn’t particularly practical to begin with. If you want to catch fish, get a net. If you want to catch fish with a rod and reel, get a can of worms. Anyone who chooses to fly fish is doing so because it means something more to them. For many, the heritage, beauty, tradition, feel, and look of a bamboo rod adds to the experience. So, if it's the kind of thing that interests you, you don't need to be convinced. If it doesn't, no convincing will do."
